Covers and images

Branded or photo covers with your logo and colour, uploading your own cover, and the photos and diagrams inside articles.

Every article gets a cover, drawn for you. Set the look once in Article settings → Article covers; a new title draws a new cover.

Cover styles

  • Branded (the default): your brand colour, your logo and site name at the top left, and the title at the bottom left. The text turns dark on light colours so it stays readable.
  • Photo: a stock photo picked for the article, cropped to fill. Turn on Show title on photo to add the title and a small logo over a dark shade.

Brand colour starts from your site. Type a hex colour, like #3D5AFE, to change it.

We use your site icon by default. Replace uploads your own logo: PNG, JPG or SVG, under 512 KB. Use site icon goes back.

Your logo is always shown whole, never cropped. A wide wordmark (about twice as wide as it is tall) stands on its own; other logos sit next to your site name.

Using your own cover

On an article, hover the cover and choose Replace image. Upload a JPG or PNG up to 4 MB (it's cropped to 1200 × 630), or pick a free photo from Lummi. Use automatic cover goes back to the drawn one. Changes apply when you press Save.

Saving your cover settings redraws the covers of articles that aren't published yet. Covers you uploaded are never drawn over.

Photos and diagrams inside articles

New articles get up to 3 images in their text, each after the first paragraph of a section, never in two sections in a row and never in the FAQ.

  • Photos come from Lummi or Pexels, copied to our storage with a small credit line (“Photo by … on Lummi”). A photo another of your articles already shows isn't used again.
  • Diagrams are drawn for steps or options that aren't already a list or table in the article.
  • Every image has descriptive alt text; an image without it is left out.

In the editor you can move or delete an image. There's no setting to turn images off.
